Soul Mates.

While reading Eat Pray Love today I stumbled across an excerpt that caught my attention from Liz's travels in India.  I happen to really appreciate Richard from Texas, and he happens to say some pretty great things.  So let me share a passage that rings heavily with truths about what a soul mate could be.  It's an interesting way to approach the topic that most people assume means "meant to be" forever.

"People think a soul mate is your perfect fit, and that's what everyone wants.  But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that's holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life.  A true soul mate is probably the most important person you'll ever meet, because they tear down your walls and smack you awake.  But to live with a soul mate forever?  Nah.  Too painful.  Soul mates, they come into your life just to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then they leave. "-Richard from Texas

Intriguing yes? This book is beyond wonderful from insights like this to inspiration in the form of self discovery and enlightenment.  I'd recommend it highly as a read that will put a smile on your face while you follow the story of a woman on a journey to re-find herself.  PS this book will also make you want to TRAVEL. Fair warning.

The Discovery.

Its funny the way things turn out sometimes.
I guess it's true, all great changes really are preceded by chaos.
In life, not everything is always what it seems.
However, we can trick ourselves into believing that everything is just fine.
Even when fine fails to describe how un healthy a situation can be.
This false descriptor ties into something I call, the difference between
loving someone and being in love with someone
Sometimes, it takes the other persons final actions to make you realize that you only loved them all along, and maybe you really weren't meant to be with one another.
Which then leads to something which recently struck me as so obvious that I can't believe I missed it all along.
Before we can truly give ourselves to someone, we have to be happy with who we are.
If you cannot make yourself happy, how can you make your significant other happy?
"We must be our own before we can be another's."-Ralph Waldo Emerson
It's as if I opened my eyes to a whole new world.
And I feel as if I owe a thank you in a way.
Something seemingly so terrible has led me in a pursuit of happiness.
A happiness that depends directly on myself.
If you ever get the chance to discover who you really are,
take it.
It will lead you on an amazing journey down the path of self discovery.
